Fitness Classes

Thanks to grants from the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and the Community Foundation of Ottawa, BCA offers a variety of fitness classes, in a number of different locations around Ottawa, to all women who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer.

Guidelines on BCA Fitness Class Registration

BCA’s fitness classes have gained in popularity and many classes have reached maximum capacity. To be fair to both new and previous participants and to allow access to the greatest number of participants we have developed Guidelines on BCA Fitness Class Registration  (updated August 2011).

Registration

Registration is now open. We are accepting registration forms by mail, email or hand delivery only. No registration via fax or phone. (Please note that you are not registered for any class unless we have these completed, signed forms in the office).

Last year’s waiver is now expired. You must sign a new one BEFORE starting any class. It will be held on file until August 31. 2012.
You will also need to fill in the request form for session choice(s) and send it in by mail, email or drop it off at the office in person. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:00.

Waiting lists for individuals wanting to take more than one class will be addressed (see guidelines) once initial registration period is over. Registrations will continue to be accepted after that for classes that are not full.

Belly Dancing

The ancient art of Middle Eastern dance is a fun, safe, low-impact form of exercise, designed for women of any age, size, and fitness level. Many of us live with aches, pains, and chronic conditions which make any form of exercise difficult or painful.  Belly Dance can help gradually strengthen core muscles, stretch out those stiff joints, loosen up that nasty tension in the torso, and make you smile. Beginner students learn to express themselves through movement and music, and experience the joy of reconnecting your femininity with mind and body wellness. Let’s have some fun with fitness!  More information on Belly Dance classes.

BCA’s Dragon Boat Team – Busting Out

We’re all in the same boat. Literally and figuratively. The literal boat is a beauty–long and sleek, adorned with a gilded dragon’s head and tail–swift and sturdy. The euphemistic vessel is another story–a hapless abomination. Breast cancer! We all have breast cancer. Ours is a perilous craft!! More >>
